WHY CORNERSTONE CHURCH CREWE?
Why Cornerstone?
The cornerstone is Jesus. 1 Peter 2:6 describes Christ as ‘a chosen and precious cornerstone and the one who trust in him will never be put to shame.’ He is the rock, our sure and certain foundation. Often, we build our lives on other things (ourselves, our families, our friends, our money, our jobs, our pleasures). These are really good gifts to be enjoyed but they were never meant to be the foundation of our lives. If we put that pressure on them sooner or later they will let us down. But Jesus never lets us down. If we build everything on him then we can be sure it will last forever. That's great news - he gives us life and hope, forgiveness and joy, peace and security. Being called Cornerstone constantly reminds us of all we have in Jesus.
Why Church?
Why plant a church and not try some other way to reach people? Because the church is God's plan for reaching the world. In the book of Acts mission revolves around the church – people are sent from churches to set up churches. The New Testament is written to either those in churches or those leading churches. Church is God’s idea and he loves it. He is relational, and he wants us to be in relationship with him and with one another. That’s why we’re planting a church.
Why Crewe?
There are more than 70,000 people currently living in Crewe and that figure is rapidly increasing, but the vast majority don't know Jesus. There is a massive need already, and it keeps growing. New housing is rapidly being built all over the town the proposed HS2 line would only bring more people into Crewe. More people who don't know Jesus. More people who don't know the hope of eternal life with him. More people who don't know the freedom of forgiveness. That's why Crewe.
